Key Achievements

  • Secured part-time employment
  • Achieved Level 2 Food Hygiene
  • Achieved Entry 3 Hospitality & Catering
  • Built real workplace independence
  • Developed confidence and communication skills

Year One

Ben joined Landmarks as a chatty but shy learner, independent yet lacking confidence. Staff worked closely with him to build communication skills and encourage independence. Through group discussions, practical tasks, and consistent support, Ben learned to voice his opinions, ask questions, and contribute in group situations. Over time, he began confidently identifying tasks that needed completing while being mindful of workplace safety.

Year Two

Over the summer, Ben started thinking about his future and working life. With guidance from his tutor, he began developing employability skills, supporting peers, delivering instructions, and practising different types of communication. He trialled work experience at a Church Coffee Morning, then at Creswell Crags, where he split his time between grounds maintenance and the café. Through these experiences, Ben realised his passion for hospitality and catering.

Year Three

Ben decided he wanted to work in a pub. With targeted support, he joined a local Greene King placement. From day one, he integrated seamlessly with the staff, built rapport with customers, and demonstrated initiative, independence, and strong self-evaluation skills. His hard work and dedication were rewarded this week when Ben secured part-time employment with Lost and Found in Sheffield, supporting front-of-house on busy shifts and bringing his enthusiasm and confidence to the team.
Ben’s journey is a story of growth, determination, and the transformative power of specialist FE. From shy learner to confident employee, he has taken meaningful steps towards a fulfilling future.
Well done, Ben!
