Bullying, whether physical, verbal, or online, can have a significant impact on anyone. However, for young people with learning disabilities, the effects can be even more damaging, leading to feelings of isolation, low self-esteem, and increased vulnerability. That’s why it’s essential to create an environment where everyone is encouraged to speak up, support one another, and celebrate differences.
In November, we focused on promoting positive behaviour and ensuring that every learner feels heard and supported. For example, learners in Sports focused on sportsmanship and respect in a sporting environment, while those in Personal and Social Development explored the qualities of good friends and how to recognise if someone is being unkind. This didn’t just happen within the college walls—learners on our Employability Pathway also learned about workplace bullying and how to respond if it were to occur.
How Can We Make a Difference?
- Stand up for each other: If you see bullying, speak out. Everyone deserves to feel safe and supported, and your voice can make a real difference.
- Be respectful: Small acts of kindness can have a huge impact. Celebrating each other’s differences helps to create an environment where everyone feels valued.
- Support those who need it: Offering a listening ear or simply being there for someone can help them feel less alone and more understood. We all deserve a safe space.
At Landmarks, we are committed to empowering our learners to be confident in who they are, to stand up for themselves, and to support others who may be struggling. By creating a supportive and inclusive environment, we can ensure that bullying has no place here.
We encourage all of our learners, staff, and families to get involved. Let’s #ChooseRespect and show that bullying will never be tolerated.
Together, we can make a difference.
