Elizabeth Fothergill CBE visits the Eckington campus to meet learners and celebrate the impact of specialist education.
His Majesty’s (HM) Lord-Lieutenant of Derbyshire visited Landmarks Specialist College’s Eckington campus this week to meet learners and staff and see first-hand the work being carried out to support young people with additional needs to develop independence, confidence and employability skills.
Mrs Elizabeth Fothergill CBE spent time exploring the college’s facilities and learning more about the programmes that help learners prepare for adulthood, employment and life beyond college.
During the visit, the Lord-Lieutenant met with learners and staff from across the campus, hearing about their experiences at Landmarks and the opportunities the college provides through practical learning, vocational training and community engagement.
The visit also included a tour of the college’s learning environments, where learners demonstrated the skills they are developing as part of their programmes, from life skills and employability training to hands-on vocational activities.
The Lord-Lieutenant’s visit offered an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of learners and highlight the important role specialist education plays in supporting young people to reach their potential.
Landmarks’ CEO and Principal Larry Brocklesby said:
“We were delighted to welcome the Lord-Lieutenant of Derbyshire to our Eckington campus and share the inspiring work taking place here.
Our staff work incredibly hard to ensure every learner has the opportunity to develop their independence, build confidence and prepare for the next stage of their lives. It was a privilege to showcase the achievements of our learners and the supportive environment that makes Landmarks such a special place.”
Landmarks Specialist College provides specialist education and training for young adults with learning difficulties and disabilities, helping them gain the skills they need for employment, independence and active participation in their communities.
The visit celebrated the college’s continued commitment to empowering learners and creating meaningful opportunities for their futures.
