Year One

Jamie started his journey at Landmarks College in September 2020, with a clear goal: to secure paid employment. When he first joined, he was understandably a little unsure and needed extra support to adjust. But from the outset, his determination to succeed was evident.
During his first year, Jamie focused on strengthening his Maths and English skills, learning practical tasks like constructing sentences with correct grammar and spelling. He worked hard to build a solid foundation, which would set him up for success in the future.
He also began developing his independence, using tools like task lists to stay organised. This helped him become more confident in completing tasks with less support. By the end of the first year, Jamie had completed his qualifications in Employability Skills and Skills for Working Life – clear evidence of his progress.

Year Two

In his second year, Jamie continued to build on the skills he had developed. He took on a work experience placement within the college, handling administrative tasks such as printing, photocopying, and shredding. This was an important opportunity for Jamie to apply his skills in a real-world context.
Jamie also began travel training, learning how to confidently navigate his local community, which was a significant step towards achieving his goal of employment. By the end of Year Two, Jamie had earned his Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award, and had successfully completed his qualifications in Employability Skills and Skills for Working Life.
Additionally, Jamie began a work placement at Equans, joining the receptionist team. This experience allowed him to put his employability skills into practice and gave him invaluable insight into the working world.

Year Three

In Year Three, Jamie embarked on a supported internship at Equans, where he continued to grow in confidence. He developed his communication skills, time management, and organisational abilities, and received positive feedback from his employer. His progress was reflected in his Employer Progress Review, where his efforts were highly praised.
Despite his success, Jamie realised his true passion lay in the hospitality sector. As a result, he chose to focus on his work in the college Bistro, where he thrived. Jamie’s customer service skills and enthusiasm for the role were evident, and his desire to pursue a career in hospitality only grew stronger.

Year Four

Jamie’s journey continued in Year Four, when he started a supported internship at Monk’s Bridge Farm, a Greene King pub and restaurant. In this role, Jamie took on a variety of tasks, including clearing tables, serving food, and assisting customers. The feedback from customers was fantastic, with many complimenting his excellent service.
Jamie continued to excel at college, contributing to catering at open days in Rotherham and demonstrating his strong customer service skills. He remained focused on his personal development, particularly on improving his problem-solving abilities and time-telling skills, which he had identified as areas for growth.
At his graduation, Jamie was awarded the “Most Helpful to Others” Award – a fitting recognition of his hard work, kindness, and willingness to support his peers.
Although he wasn’t offered paid employment at Monk’s Bridge due to the fast-paced nature of the environment, Jamie remained motivated and enthusiastic about his future.

Jamie’s Next Chapter

We are incredibly proud to announce that Jamie has now secured paid employment at Tesco! This is a huge achievement and a testament to the dedication and hard work Jamie has put in over the years. From a young man who needed additional support to someone who is now ready to embark on a successful career, Jamie’s progress has been nothing short of inspiring.
Jamie’s journey is a brilliant example of determination and growth, and we are excited to see where his hard work takes him next. Congratulations, Jamie – we couldn’t be prouder!
