This week (15–21 June) marks Learning Disability Week, Mencap’s annual campaign celebrating the achievements, talents and contributions of the 1.5 million people in the UK with a learning disability.
This year’s theme, “Do You See Me?”, was created by people with a learning disability and focuses on a simple but important message: being seen, heard and valued. The campaign encourages people to look beyond labels, challenge assumptions and recognise the unique strengths, experiences and contributions of individuals with a learning disability.

Seeing the Person, Not the Label
For many people with a learning disability, barriers can still exist in education, employment and community life. Learning Disability Week is an opportunity to challenge assumptions and celebrate what people can achieve when they are given the right opportunities and support.
Every learner has their own strengths, interests and ambitions. Whether that is gaining work experience, learning new skills, building confidence or progressing towards employment, everyone’s journey is different.
At Landmarks, we believe that success looks different for every learner. Celebrating Achievement and Inclusion
Across our college sites, learners take part in a wide range of vocational, community and social opportunities. From animal care and hospitality to performing arts, sport and employability programmes, learners are encouraged to develop their confidence and discover what they are capable of achieving.

Creating Pathways to Employment
Despite progress, many people with a learning disability continue to face barriers when looking for employment. This highlights the importance of creating meaningful pathways into work, volunteering and further training.
Through our WayFinder WorkConnect Supported Internship programme, learners gain real-world experience, develop workplace skills and build the confidence needed for their next steps. These opportunities help bridge the gap between education and employment whilst providing personalised support throughout the journey.
