It was an exciting day at Landmarks as we welcomed Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Derbyshire, Mrs Elizabeth Fothergill CBE. Learners and staff were buzzing with excitement, ready to show off what makes Landmarks such a unique place.
Learners in the Spotlight
From the moment she arrived, learners were eager to share their achievements and show the skills they’ve been developing. From life skills and employability training to hands-on vocational activities, Mrs Fothergill got a real sense of the practical, everyday learning that happens here.
Our learners spoke proudly about their experiences at Landmarks, sharing how the college has helped them grow in confidence and independence. Some are preparing for employment, others are volunteering, and all are taking on new challenges with determination. For many, this visit was a chance to show off just how far they’ve come and the staff couldn’t have been prouder to see them shine.
Chatting With Staff and Exploring Landmarks
Mrs Fothergill also had the chance to chat with staff and learn more about the programmes on offer. From community engagement projects to vocational training and daily learning activities, it was the perfect opportunity to highlight the full range of support Landmarks provides to its learners.
A Word from Our Principal
Our CEO and Principal, Larry Brocklesby, reflected on the visit:
“It was a real privilege to welcome the Lord-Lieutenant to Eckington. Our learners achieve amazing things every day, and it’s fantastic to have the opportunity to celebrate their achievements and show the wider community the incredible work taking place here.”
Celebrating Achievements and Progress
The visit wasn’t just about celebrating what has been achieved – it was also a reminder of the vital role specialist education plays in helping young people reach their potential. Seeing learners engage with their learning, share their stories, and demonstrate their skills was inspiring for everyone.
At Landmarks, we’re proud to create a place where learners can explore, experiment, and develop the skills they need for adulthood, employment, and life beyond college. Days like this give us a chance to reflect on the journeys our learners have taken, celebrate their progress, and look ahead to the exciting futures that lie ahead.
Thank You for Visiting
A big thank you to Mrs Fothergill for visiting Eckington and celebrating our learners’ achievements. It was a day full of smiles, stories, and well-deserved recognition for the dedication and hard work of everyone here.
