Year One

Marton joined us at Landmarks College in September 2023, eager to start his journey on the Life Skills Pathway. From the beginning, he embraced every opportunity that came his way, participating in a wide range of sessions like Duke of Edinburgh, Creative Media, Employability, Life in Modern Nottingham, and Functional Skills. It was clear early on that Marton had a knack for attention to detail, especially in tasks like restocking. But what really stood out was his remarkable growth in communication. Through his volunteer work at the Salvation Army, Marton not only improved his ability to express himself but also built confidence in speaking with others.
Socially, Marton has made huge strides. He’s become much more confident in talking to his peers and building lasting friendships. One of the places where his social skills really shine is at the Landmarks Youth Club, where he regularly attends and enjoys spending time with friends.
Marton has also been taking driving lessons and revising for his theory test, which is coming up in the next couple of weeks. His confidence has grown so much since he started with us – he interacts really well with both staff and peers now, showing a positive, can-do attitude in everything he does.
A major highlight of Marton’s year was his involvement in the Duke of Edinburgh programme. Not only did he help organise fundraising that raised over £250 for Cancer Research and the RSPCA, but he also gained valuable skills like First Aid and how to pitch a tent. Towards the end of the programme, Marton completed two expeditions – one in Sherwood Forest and another in the Peak District, where he camped, cooked outdoors, and embraced the challenges that came with these experiences. All of this earned him the prestigious Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award.
Looking ahead, Marton is already working towards his Silver Duke of Edinburgh award and has started volunteering at Bulwell Community Gardens. His journey is a testament to his dedication and growth, and we couldn’t be more proud of everything he’s accomplished so far. With his positive attitude and hard work, Marton is on track to achieve even more in the future!
