Year One

When Olivia first joined us at Landmarks, she needed a little extra encouragement to engage with her peers. She was supported to follow task lists to stay on track, and we made sure to celebrate her achievements, big and small. This helped Olivia gain confidence and begin recognising all the things she was capable of.   Olivia worked hard on improving her communication skills too. She was encouraged to take her time when responding, slowing down her speech to ensure clearer conversations with her peers. She also began using task lists to help her stay organised, which led to a growing sense of independence. As Olivia became more confident, her social side really began to shine through! She interacted with her peers, took orders in The Bistro, joined in on pool tournaments, and started to build meaningful friendships across the college.   Her dedication and joy for working in The Bistro led Olivia to decide she wanted to pursue a career in Hospitality & Catering. It was clear that she had the passion and potential to go far!

Year Two

In her second year, Olivia joined our Supported Internship programme, and we couldn’t have been more excited to see how she would rise to the challenge. Olivia’s placement was at the Red Lion, Todwick, and we initially thought she might need more time and support to settle into the workplace.   However, Olivia hit the ground running! From the start, she adapted quickly to the restaurant environment. She confidently interacted with customers, solved problems on the spot, and took on tasks without hesitation. Olivia showed us just how capable she was, from taking and serving orders to applying her initiative and getting involved with the team. To further build her independence, Olivia gradually worked without job coach support, first for 15 minutes at a time, and eventually she was flying solo – working entirely independently.   Her confidence grew with each shift, and she became an essential part of the team, always going the extra mile to support her colleagues and ensure customers had the best experience. By July, Olivia’s hard work paid off when she was offered paid employment at the Red Lion, Todwick! She was over the moon, and we couldn’t be prouder of her for becoming a valued member of the Red Lion family. It’s safe to say that Olivia’s journey has been nothing short of inspiring!
