Year One

Robert began his journey with Landmarks in September 2023, driven by a strong passion for gaining employment within the hospitality and catering sector. Following an initial baseline period, Robert was set clear targets focused on his main development areas, and he made consistent and positive progress throughout the year.
Alongside working towards his Hospitality and Catering qualification, Robert also successfully achieved Level 1 qualifications in Maths and Digital Skills. Based within our Archer provision, he was able to develop practical hospitality skills daily through hands-on work experience, working both front of house and back of house.
Robert had a very successful first year at Landmarks, demonstrating commitment, enthusiasm, and a growing confidence in his abilities.

Year Two

At the start of his second year, Robert naturally stepped into the role of a peer mentor for first-year learners. This was a role he took on independently and thrived in, supported by his caring, approachable, and helpful nature. With a clear focus on entering the world of work, Robert was eager to progress towards paid employment. A supported internship placement was arranged at a pub close to his home, where he attended a meet-and-greet with confidence. While supported by staff, Robert showed impressive independence, asking thoughtful questions about daily tasks, dress expectations, and employer standards.
Robert made an excellent start to his placement and, within just a few weeks, was confidently completing many tasks with minimal support. Unfortunately, through no fault of his own, this placement came to an end in April 2025. By mid-May, Robert began a new placement at The Castle Barge in Newark and was granted a funding extension to allow additional time to further develop his skills. He settled in quickly and, within a month, was working fully independently. During his employer progress review in June, the employer praised Robert’s outstanding work ethic, positive attitude, and genuine passion for his role. As a result, Robert was offered paid employment for two shifts per week, meaning the funding extension was no longer required.
In January 2026, we were delighted to receive an update confirming that Robert remains in employment and has increased his hours to three shifts per week.
Robert’s journey highlights the impact of perseverance, tailored support, and real-world experience. From learner to confident employee, he has taken meaningful steps towards a sustainable and fulfilling future in hospitality.
Well done, Robert!
