Rotherham MP Sarah Champion Visits Landmarks Specialist College

Last week we were delighted to welcome Sarah Champion to Landmarks Specialist College for a visit to our Rotherham site.

The visit was a great opportunity to show Sarah what life at Landmarks is really like – from meeting our fantastic learners to seeing the hands-on learning experiences that help young people with SEND build confidence, independence and skills for the future.

Seeing Landmarks in Action

Our Principal and CEO Larry Brocklesby welcomed Sarah to the college, alongside fellow Landmarks staff, and gave her a tour of the site. As they made their way around the campus, Sarah had the chance to meet learners and staff while hearing more about the work happening across the college and the level of support we provide. Learners were excited to talk about what they’ve been working on and share their experiences of college life at Landmarks. The visit was a brilliant chance to show how Landmarks supports young adults with learning difficulties and disabilities through personalised learning, practical experiences and a supportive environment that helps them grow in confidence and independence.

Learners Sharing Their Experiences

One of the highlights of the visit was seeing learners chatting with Sarah about their achievements and experiences so far. We headed into our black box performing arts studio where learners spoke about taking part in The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, explaining the different activities they’ve been involved in and what they enjoy about the programme. The conversation even touched on the award’s founder, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, as learners shared some of the history behind it. It was fantastic to see learners confidently talking about their experiences and everything they’ve achieved during their time at Landmarks.

Hands-On Learning in Action

During the visit, Sarah also stopped by our fully equipped catering kitchen, where learners are developing their catering skills as part of their vocational training. She chatted with learner Lucy, who spoke about what she was cooking in the bistro and even shared a few tips and tricks! These kinds of hands-on learning opportunities are a big part of life at Landmarks, helping learners develop practical skills while building confidence for their future goals.

Words from Our Principal and CEO, Larry:

“We were delighted to welcome Sarah Champion and share the inspiring stories and successes of our learners. The visit was a valuable opportunity to highlight the important role specialist colleges, like Landmarks, play in supporting young adults with additional needs to reach their potential and prepare for adulthood.”

It was a fantastic visit and a great opportunity to celebrate the achievements of our learners, showcase our Rotherham site and highlight the amazing work happening every day at Landmarks Specialist College.
