At Landmarks Specialist College, we believe that music and performing arts are more than just creative subjects – they are powerful tools for learning, self-expression, and personal growth. These subjects not only provide a space for our learners to develop new skills, but they also help them build confidence, work as part of a team, and express themselves in ways that words alone may not allow. Here’s how we integrate music and performing arts into our curriculum to support the development of our learners with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
Â
Music: Creativity, Collaboration, and Independence
At Landmarks, our music sessions are designed to help learners work collaboratively with peers while building their individual musicianship skills. Each term, learners work on a project that builds on their previous work, helping them grow in both their independence and their musical ability. Whether they are learning an instrument, singing, or working with others in a group, music allows learners to explore their creativity and hone their skills in a fun and supportive environment.
Music is delivered in an inclusive way, so learners of all levels can join in and build both individual and group skills. By the end of each project, learners feel immense pride in what they have achieved and are excited to perform, showcasing their hard work and progress.

Performing Arts: Confidence, Soft Skills, and Performance
Our performing arts sessions provide learners with the opportunity to explore all aspects of the industry, including understanding diversity and cultural topics. These sessions not only develop learners’ creative talents, but also encourage them to enhance their soft skills such as communication, confidence, and teamwork.
Throughout the year, learners work on creating performances, with termly projects allowing them to showcase their progress. In addition, our performing arts team explores links with music and dance, culminating in an exciting end-of-year performance that highlights the creativity and hard work of our learners.
